Information for Homeowners

Renewable energy has always been a popular option for homeowners in Pennsylvania. Wood is probably the earliest form of energy used in the keystone state, and remains the best renewable option for many homeowners.

However, other renewable energy systems, including solar heat and power, and small scale wind systems, are also used by many energy-conscious Pennsylvanians.

Depending on your location and energy use patterns, one or several renewable energy systems may be a good option. Homeowners in many parts of the state can also choose to purchase energy from renewable sources, including wind-based electricity, and ethanol or biodiesel for automobiles.

Homeowners should also keep in mind the importance and value of energy efficiency in their homes. Often, it is more affordable and environmentally beneficial to reduce energy use rather than to switch to renewable energy.

Combining the two strategies (switch to renewables and reduce total energy use) can be a great way to minimize the environmental impact of your home.
